October HOA Board Meeting

The next scheduled HOA board meeting will be held Tuesday, October 21st at 7:30 p.m. at the Childers' residence (217 Sitka Ct)

We will be discussing three main columns of action against the Smith Development (I actually prefer the term Over-development in that we are not against development of property, just overdevelopment):

1.      Formally retaining the services of a land-use attorney to legally challenge the Smith    Development;
a.      Propose starting a legal defense fund based upon private donations from concerned residents as well as organizations to fight both the Smith Development as well as the downgraded “ditch” designation of the Amon Creek by KID and Smith in an attempt to circumvent State Law on setbacks and development restrictions;
2.      Continued letter writing campaign to City Hall, newspaper, and City officials in opposition to the development combined with strong community attendance at any meetings where this is an agenda item;
3.      Discussion with John Roden to acquire Willowbrook HOA rights to the land/easement over which Smith Development would be required to seek access to their property.  Dan Rutherford has been in contact with Roden and hopefully will be able to report on Roden’s attitude toward a protective transfer to the HOA of property rights that would effectually block/reduce Smith’s ability to overdevelop the property.

SLURRY SEAL

Some of you may be wondering what the City of Richland has been doing to our neighborhood roads. Sheldon Williams with the City made a short presentation at our annual meeting on Tuesday to explain the city's plan for improving our roads. They have currently been sealing cracks, a first phase to their plan to apply what is called slurry seal to the roads. This is anticipated to occur in July. Once they have a contractor in place, residents will be notified of road closures. The following is a brochure he left.

Amon Basin items of interest

Here are a few things Karen Sowers mentioned last night at the annual meeting that may be of interest to Willowbrook residents:

1. The Fast Focus (hot topic) question for this Sunday's Tri-City Herald is:
Should Richland do more to protect Amon Creek Natural Preserve?
Please take this opportunity to show your support for the Amon Creek Natural Preserve by responding to the Fast Focus question - it's in our backyard!

2. There will be a City of Richland Parks and Rec meeting next Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m..The Transportation Improvement Plan is on the agenda, which will likely include the Rachel Road extension that the City decided to recently add back to the TIP.

3. Tapteal Greenway will be hosting a Wildlands Walk in Amon Creek Natural Preserve on Saturday, May 17 beginning at 9:00 a.m.. With the pending Hayden Homes development, this will be an opportunity to enjoy the preserve in its current state of peacefulness.

4. It looks like the next City Council meeting that will address the Hayden Homes development, and potentially the Rachel Rd extension, isTuesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m..  Keep an eye on your email for updates!
